‘What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men …… That is what love looks like.’ - St. Augustine

Ded Moroz is Coming To Town

You better not pout, you better not cry...

You better not shout,  I'm tellin' you why..

Ded Moroz is coming to town!

Nastia and I just spent three successful hours in the Kemerovo 'mall'. We managed to spend half of the $2,000 that has come in for the orphanage 'Christmas Drive.' When did my life get so fun? Three hours to wander toy and book stores and purchase special gifts for 100 children? Awesome! Sooooo fun!

Nastia was whiny at first, as she always is when we shop for anyone but her -- Why can't you buy meee something? Why do the orphanage kids need brand new toys? --But once she saw the Christmas trees, and Ded Moroz and Snegorishka costumes, she went a little nuts. Then I had to slow HER down with the buying frenzy!

We had no less than nine toy store 'helpers' following us around and collecting items in shopping carts. We bought a tree for the orphanage ( the kids said they don't have one but really really dream of one) and then Nastia talked me into buying the Ded Moroz costume...

Mom! We can get someone to dress up as Ded Moroz and give out the presents on our last visit!

When my daughter shows initiative, I jump on it --no telling when it will ever show again-- lol. And so, we bought a full costume, including Snegorishka, too! ( If you don't know the story of Ded Moroz and Snegorishka, I'll leave it to you and google.)

So, we headed out to the taxi with all our helpers, and took our sweet time getting everything up eight flights of stairs by ourselves, and the minute she put the bags down Nastia was donning the costume, complete with her own giant bedpillow.

Can't wait to head to the orphanage! Most of what we bought will have to wait till our last trip there, but we'll get them all excited with stories of our shopping adventure:)

Ksusha (from the earlier post) says that there is a difference at the orphanage this month...people are much happier.. and kinder and, she says, more 'smiley'. Couldn't ask for more than that.  Keep those boxes, letters and donations coming -- your generosity is really affecting them! Love makes a difference!

  1. I am so glad you had such a great time shopping for the children. I could feel the excitement and I feel it too as my box will be heading your way tomorrow. I had lots of fun shopping too even though I didn't have $2,000. Have a great day and I will check on you later.

  2. Lovely, lovely..... You've certainly had some "downs" in the past few weeks, but I can hardly imagine such a high point! Surely the best thing in life is being able to make others happy - and so rarely is it as clear-cut as this! What a bright spot you will be in a dreary world!
