‘What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men …… That is what love looks like.’ - St. Augustine

Tough Day...Thank God It's Over

I don't even want to post about today -- it was that hard. Suffice it to say that everything that could go wrong did. AND both D and Nastia exhibited very challenging behavior from morning till bedtime. If it were only D or only Nastia, I could have handled it better. But both having tantrums and tears at the same time? In this heat? Tough. Very tough. D is expressing frustration and anger at the realization that this isn't permanent. She was under the impression, somehow, that she could choose to stay with us forever if she wanted to, and when we finally got it to sink in that this was not the case, she lost it. I mean a full blown kicking and screeching tantrum in the car. Did I mention our car air-conditioning is broken? Tantrums and extreme heat do not go well together. Did I mention this happened on a four lane highway in afternoon traffic? Throw in a very jealous teen, and you can imagine the tornado of emotion that manifested.  In the end, we all survived and am soooo grateful that D finally just fell asleep (3 hours after her bedtime) and I can head to bed myself!

Nastia has therapy tomorrow night, thanks be to God. If I hear 'You love her more than me' one more time I might lose it. She can rant about the little girl who is 'stealing' her mom (her words today) and maybe get enough off her chest that I will get my regulated daughter back by Wednesday. One can only hope.

  2. Oh! How I WISH you were down the street - even in the same STATE - so we could have a good cup of tea or coffee and a laugh/cry together!

I was looking at photos of someone's child on facebook today and Anastasia clouded over with the "you love her better" syndrome. Actually, I was thinking that this child looked amazingly like Nastya would have looked at that age, but as I attempted to explain that I felt like a rather desperate cheating spouse.

Car tantrums bring back memories of Maxim! That and the concept of praying until your head might explode.

I always wondered how riots can occur when it is hot. I personally could never get revved up enough for a tantrum in the weather we had yesterday.

Well, we endured a number of interesting tantrums when Nastya was here on her summer visit. You do get a good "vision" of what the kids are like from these visits, I believe. Sergei was calm, sweet, helpful, fun, self-controlled and has proved to be that in the year since. Anastasia was actually much worse during her visit - reflecting the wear and tear that "special events", and holidays have on her.

Well, God is working. If it doesn't kill you it makes you stronger. etc. My thoughts and prayers are with you - and wishes that your sense of humor will hang in there!
